Operation Eagle Eye: Vision Quest

Or: Body Whack-A-Mole #6 Pt. 2

September 29, 2024

Operation Eagle-Eye: Vision Quest: an accurate description for what I’m experiencing.  “Cataract Surgery” lacks the proper sense of adventure.

About 4 weeks ago I had cataract surgery on both eyes. The day after the second surgery, I awoke to clearer vision and brighter colors than I could ever recall. The AWE I felt conjured my 7yr old self putting on corrective glasses and seeing the world in technicolor detail for the first time. That same day I also met with my surgeon for a follow-up consultation. Eye pressure was good, everything looked fine, however, he said, my quality of vision was “underwhelming” to which I said “WHAT!? I’ve been blown away” – and he said, “Well, I suppose you would be, your vision was in a bad place. But we’re going to make it better.”

I got the “Light Adjustment Lens” version of cataract lenses installed, which is a bit more involved than typical cataract surgery in that I wear UV protective glasses until post-surgical adjustments are completed and “locked-in” about 4-6wks post-surgery. The lenses are made of a macromer that responds by blooping up all cozy-like in response to discreet UV zapper-rays, which means that delicate, specific adjustments can be made to the cataract lenses AFTER they are in your eyes – at least, until the macromers are “locked in” to place. Last Thursday I went for the first of several lens adjustments. After spending 66yrs. with a significant astigmatism in my left eye- I don’t have a slight double vision in my left eye, and my vision is moving towards 20/20 [maybe even 20/15]. The world will never look the same. Literally.

I woke up last night - could SEE – then FREAKED OUT thinking I hadn’t taken my contacts out.

OPERATION EAGLE EYE: VISION QUEST continues….
